The engineer oiled up lots of different places before the train left the station. ("Oiled up" is not technical language, but it's the best I can do! :-))
I realy like this image. It's simple, but there are certain details that make it special: the quiet concentration on the man's face, the almost monotone broken by the gold of the oilcan, the dtails in the wheel.

Oiled up sounds good to me, that is what I would call it. Way to be there to capture it!
