204/365, Rose Hips (My own theme)
I knew these were called Rose Hips, but didn't know anything else about them. If you don't either, you can read more here. Interesting! And I like the bokeh in the top right corner. :-)Monday, August 24, 2009

194/365, #364: Works of Art

This is a wall in the Rathskeller at the historic Seelbach Hilton in Lousiville, KY. (Click for larger view)
Opened in 1907, the Rathskeller offers a setting different from all others -- unique in architecture and distinct in design and detail.
Medieval architecture marks the Rathskellar's interior with a red-tinted, terra-cotta ceiling, with columns ringed by Rookwood-Pottery pelicans -- a sign of good luck. Tile designs on the Rathskeller's walls depict walled cities in the Rhenish region of Germany, where the Seelbach's founders, Otto and Louis Seelbach, were born. The tile work for this unique room was crafted by the famed Rookwood Pottery of Cincinnati. Each tile was designed by hand and fired. Then, color was added and fired again, with an additional firing for each color.

185/365, #159: Inspiration
I've used some of these photos for other posts, but not all of them. I created this layout for a challenge at a new digi-scrapping site Digi Scraps Drive-In. I used a kit called Woodland Beauty by Sandy Collins, owner of the Digital Design Den and designer at the Drive-In. The challenge was to scrap "What is your inspiration?" I am inspired by nature--the colors, textures, sounds. You might have already noticed that by the subjects of so many of my blog posts!
